History of the Puthenkur Community
- The Puthenkur community experienced several splits over time, resulting in the formation of different groups, including the Thozhiyur Church (1772), CMS-Anglican (1836), Reformed Jacobites or Marthomites (1889), Orthodox (1912), and a group that reunited with the Catholic Church (1930).
- The remaining group formed a separate registered Society as the Jacobite Syrian Church (2003).
Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios
- Born in 1882 at Mavelikkara in the Panicker Veettil Family.
- Parents were religious and pious, and imparted strong religious values to him.
- He was intelligent and earnest in his studies.
- Later became Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios (1882-1953).
History of the Indian Church
- The Indian Church experienced factionalism and splits in the 16th/17th centuries.
- In 1653, the Coonan Cross Oath led to a revolt against the Portuguese colonial power's interference in the Church.
