HFD Staffing Guidelines Overview
- Each shift has a designated Deputy Chief (DC) responsible for quadrant staffing.
- The lead chief for EMS operations is referred to as 1100.
Staffing and Positioning
- Staffing office prioritizes filling SHO positions based on the rank of vacancies.
- P1 SHO cannot operate an ambulance unless regularly assigned to it.
- P2 SHO can hold shifts for a maximum of 12 hours.
Absentee Notification
- If unable to report for duty and unable to contact a supervisor, members must notify OEC.
- Tardiness and absences are documented in Electronic 42.
Reporting Absences
- Debit-day personnel must notify their regularly assigned station before switching to a projected assignment.
- A Captain can deny member substitutions if they have not completed required Continuing Education (CE) or have scheduled training.
Substitution Policies
- Substitutions are allowed only on a strict rank-for-rank basis, but members can substitute for one rank up or down.
- A member has a limit of 480 substitution hours per year; unused hours do not roll over to the next year.
- Members cannot substitute for another if it results in working 72 consecutive hours.
