Officer Responsibilities
- Officers must ensure compliance by all HFD members, irrespective of command authority.
Uniform Classifications
- The uniforms are categorized into four classes.
Classes of Uniforms
- Dress Uniform: Formal attire for significant events.
- Class A: Professional uniform for official functions.
- Class B: General operational uniform.
- Class C: Casual uniform for daily tasks and training.
Dress Uniform Details
- Features long sleeves, patches, tie, shoulder epaulets, collar brass, badge, name tag, dress pants with belt, black dress shoes, and departmental hat.
Events for Dress Uniform
- Worn during funerals, official court appearances, and public meetings representing the department.
Class A Uniform Details
- Comprised of a long sleeve shirt, tie, collar brass, badge, name tag, dress pants, and other accessories, but excludes patches and dress jacket.
Class B Uniform Details
- Includes short or long sleeve shirts, tactical pants, collar brass, and badge. Black dress shoes are required unless exceptions for emergency response personnel apply.
Identification Badge Requirement
- HFD identification badges must be worn during medical emergencies while in Class B and C uniforms.
Community Assignments Uniform
- Class B uniforms are mandatory for engagement in scheduled community interactive assignments.
Class C Uniform Details
- Also known as duty uniform, features polo or t-shirt, tactical pants, ID badge, and appropriate footwear.
Responsibilities while in Class C Uniform
- To be worn during station duties, training, and emergency responses.
Badge Visibility Requirement
- HFD identification badge must clearly display the member's EMS certification.
Minimum Uniform Maintenance
- Members must maintain at least one each of Class A, Class B, and Class C uniforms in their station locker.
Reporting to Work Requirements
- Class B uniform must be available for members on fill-in, debit days, and overtime assignments.
Officer Identification Colors
- Navy blue shirts with golden yellow print designate officers.
Firefighters Identification Colors
- Silver print shirts or polos are designated for firefighters and engineer operators.
Cap Policies
- Approved caps are permitted with Class C uniforms, and indoor wear of these caps on apparatus is allowed.
Approved Cap Specifications
- Must be navy blue with "Houston Fire" embroidered, avoiding flat bills, trucker styles, and worn-out caps.
