Fenugreek
- Terpenyl acetate and Cineol are available products made from fenugreek.
Cardamom
- Used in the treatment of respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis, cough, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, headache, diarrhea, colds.
- Used as a spice in cooking.
Linseed
- Cultivated in many sub-tropical countries.
- Linseed oil has emollient, expectorant, diuretic, demulcent, and laxative properties.
- Used in form of poultices for gouty and rheumatic swelling.
- Mucilaginous infusion is used internally as a demulcent in colds, coughs, bronchial affections, inflammation of the urinary tract, gonorrhoea, and diarrhea.
Nutmeg
- Kernel of the dried ripe seed of Myristica fragrans Houtten.
- Native to Molucca Islands in Indonesia.
- Cultivated in West Indies, Banda Islands, Archipelago, Malayan, Sumatra, and Guiana.
- Contains volatile oil (5 to 15%), which includes myristicin, geraniol, borneol, pinene, camphene, and dipentene.
- Also contains eugenol, safrol, p-cymene, and isoeugenol in small quantities.
- Aromatic, carminative, flavoring, and relieves Nausea and vomiting.
- Has a narcotic action and irritates the intestine and uterus, potentially causing abortion.
- Oil of Nutmeg is used to conceal the taste of various drugs and as a local stimulant to the gastrointestinal tract.
