- All First Alarm and greater incidents will include a dispatched Rehab Unit.
Procedure Outline
- High temperatures impact all organ systems differently, depending on heat, exposure duration, activity type, and individual factors.
- Temperatures above 105°F can overwhelm normal body cooling mechanisms during strenuous activities.
Individual Member Responsibilities
- Each member must maintain a proper rest and nutrition regimen.
- Members are required to observe suitable work/rest cycles.
- Hydration is critical: drink fluids before, during, and after shifts; limit coffee, tea, and cola intake.
- Ill effects from heat must be reported to supervisors immediately.
Company Officer Responsibilities
- Limit strenuous cardiovascular activities (e.g., tennis, running) to a maximum of 30 minutes.
- Ensure each member consumes at least 64 ounces (2 quarts) of fluid during the 24-hour shift.
- Manage work/rest cycles effectively; request relief companies and assign crews to rehab after two air bottles.
- Monitor company activities and request additional resources when necessary.
