- Classification based on Ownership, Scope of Services, and Functional Capacity.
Ownership of Hospitals
- Government Hospitals
- Established by law.
- May be operated by the National Government, Department of Health (DOH), Local Government Units (LGUs), Department of Justice (DOJ), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), or Government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCC).
- Private Hospitals
- Funded by donations, investments, or operated by individuals, corporations, associations, or organizations.
Scope of Services
- General Hospitals
- Provide comprehensive care for various illnesses, injuries, and conditions.
- Services include medical and surgical care, maternity care, and child-care.
- Equipped for services such as family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care.
- Specialty Hospitals
- Focus on specific diseases, conditions, or patient groups.
- Examples include:

Functional Capacity
- Level 1 General Hospital

- Must have accredited residency programs in major specialties and provisions for specialized services like physical medicine and rehabilitation, ambulatory surgical clinic, dialysis, and blood bank.

Specialty and Trauma Hospitals
