Handtevy Overview
- Handtevy provides a modern solution that replaces the traditional Broselow tape for emergency pediatric care.
- The application is pre-installed on every Sonim phone, designed to facilitate cardiac arrest management.
- Key features include tracking time, medication, and dosages; all information is sent to the Electronic Patient Care Report (EPCR).
- The app allows for practice without complications, ensuring familiarity with its functions.
Steps for Using Handtevy
- To begin, open the Handtevy app and add a new patient.
- Estimate the patient's size; for adults, weight in pounds (lbs) is divided by 2.2 for conversion to kilograms (kg).
- Initiate CPR by clicking the continuous button; the default is set to a 30:2 compression-to-ventilation ratio.
- A precharge sound alerts users at the 1:45 mark to prepare the defibrillator monitor.
- Utilize the metronome feature by clicking the speaker icon once the Lucas device is attached.
Pulse Check and Medication Administration
- Conduct a pulse check and access defibrillation options; choose between "no shock" or "shock" along with appropriate joules.
- Restart the precharge timer after selecting shock.
- Use the Epi Button to administer either IV or IO epinephrine; the app offers a preloaded weight-based dose.
- A timer begins, turning orange at the 3-minute mark for the next dose; the total number of doses is displayed in parentheses.
- Administer one dose every 4 minutes, up to 4 doses (additional doses may be given with Return of Spontaneous Circulation - ROSC).
Medication, Equipment, and Data Upload
- The bottom row includes options for medications, drips, equipment, and electrical interventions; all entries are auto-populated with weight-based dosages per protocol.
- Select "AirTraq" from the equipment list to assist with intubation; if video laryngoscopy (VL) is performed, recording and auditing are mandatory to evaluate the first-attempt pass rate.
- To stop CPR, select the appropriate patient outcome in the top right corner of the app.
- A blue box with a carrot icon allows users to upload data; check the box on the next screen and hit submit.
- Submitted information is sent to the cloud for EPCR download, preserving patient care documentation.
