- Confrontation is pointing out discrepancies in what the client is saying and doing
- Respect is focusing on the positive attributes of the client
- Self-disclosure is making the self-known to others
- Termination is when clients have worked through their concerns and are able to proceed forward in their lives without the counselor's assistance
Communication Skills
- Attending and listening skills behavior involves being observant, using non-verbal gestures to show the client is attended to by the counselor
- Reflection is repeating what the client has shared, using the client's own words
- Confrontation is directly throwing strong arguments into the client's responses in order to engage in acceptance and to test earlier statements
