Pronouns
- A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun.
- Subject pronouns are used as the subject of a sentence.
- Subject pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
- Examples:
- We swam in the pool for hours. (We = subject, swam = verb)
- Maria baked cookies for her friends. (Maria = subject, baked = verb)
Possessive Nouns
- Possessive nouns show ownership.
- To make a noun possessive, add an apostrophe and an "s" to the end of the noun.
- Examples:
- The cat's toy is on the table.
- I borrowed Mark's book from the library.
- All of the hospital's nurses are on duty.
Identifying Sentences
- A complete sentence has a subject and a verb.
- A sentence fragment is a group of words that doesn't have a subject and a verb.
- A run-on sentence is two or more complete sentences joined together without proper punctuation.
