- In 1915, half of all families lived on farms, implying work was typically a short walk away. City dwellers often lived close to factories, allowing them to walk to work.
- Before globalization, communication was limited, and people largely purchased local products. There was little contact with people outside of local communities.
- Globalization is a phenomenon, process, and philosophy.
- Globalization has dramatically changed human interactions and social structures.
- Decisions in one part of the world can directly impact people on the other side of the globe.
- A belief exists that global economies and governments should be integrated into a single global community.
- Globalization's methods include evolving trade, transportation, and communication strategies.
- Forces driving increased global connections include trade, transportation (cargo ships, airplanes, trains, semi-trucks), and technology/media (instantaneous communication).
- Globalization has allowed societies access to goods not locally produced and customers beyond national borders.
- Globalization has resulted in the spread of Western values and culture globally.
- Examples of global integration include the iPhone supply chain, where components from various countries are assembled in another, and the interconnectedness of global economies.
- Globalization has facilitated the easy exchange of goods throughout the world, an outcome of trade liberalization.
Threats to Globalization
- Significant 21st-century changes have weakened global connections.
- Conflict has led to severed relationships and "friendshoring" (moving trade to allied nations with similar values).

- Examples include the US/Russia conflict.
- The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains and limited travel.
