Ghusl

  • Ghusl is a bath taken to remove impurity, requiring a thorough washing of the entire body, including the mouth and nose.
  • Three Fara'id of Ghusl: gargling the mouth, rinsing the nose, and washing the entire body.
  • Five Sunan of Ghusl: making intention to become pure, washing hands, washing private parts, making wudu', and passing water over the body thrice.

Salah

Conditions in Salah

  • Takbir Tahrimah: the first takbir when starting salah.
  • Qiyam: the standing position in salah.
  • Qira'ah: reciting the Qur'an.
  • Rukū': bowing down.
  • Sujūd: prostration on the ground.
  • Qa'dah Akhirah: last sitting before salām for the duration of tashahhud.

Preparing for Salah

  • Ensure no noise will disturb salah.
  • Ensure no one will interrupt salah.
  • Make it known that you are about to pray, especially if people are around.
  • Be in a clean and purified state before beginning salah.
  • If unable to perform salah, look for an alternative, such as a smaller prayer.

Taharah: Purity

  • Taharah means purity.
  • Fard: compulsory or something you must do.
  • Wajib: necessary or next to fard.

Salatul Witr

  • Salatul Witr is prayed after the fard of 'Ishā'.
  • It is wajib and cannot be read before the fard of 'Ishā'.
  • It is prayed daily, with 3 rak'āt.
  • In Ramadan, it is prayed with jama'ah behind the imām after Tarawih Salah.
  • The first two rak'āt of Witr are the same as other rak'āt, but in the third rak'ah, a sūrah is read, followed by lifting hands and an extra takbir.

Nawaqid of Salah

Salatul Qasr

  • A shortened salah for travellers who plan to travel more than 54 miles away from their city and intend to stay for fewer than 15 days.
  • Fajr, Zuhr, and 'Aşr are shortened to 2 rak'āt each, while Maghrib remains 3 rak'āt, and 'Ishā' is 2 rak'āt with 3 witr.

Types of Najasah

  • Najāsah Haqiqi: visible impurities.
  • Najāsah Hukmi: invisible impurities.
  • Najāsah Ghalīzah: greater impurities, such as blood, urine, and stool.
  • Najāsah Khafifah: lighter impurities, such as the urine of halal animals.
  • Hadath Akbar: requiring ghusl.
  • Hadath Asghar: requiring wudū’.

Salatul Marid

  • Salah is essential in Islam, even for the unwell or bed-ridden.
  • Allah is merciful, allowing for adjustments in salah posture due to illness or disability.
  • If unable to stand, salah can be performed sitting down, with gestures for rukū' and sajdah.
