Computer System
- A set of integrated hardware and software components that work together to perform a specific task or set of tasks.
- Consists of input devices (e.g. keyboard, mouse), processing unit (CPU), storage devices (e.g. hard drive, RAM), and output devices (e.g. monitor, printer).
- Can be classified into desktop systems, laptop systems, mobile systems, and embedded systems.
Database System
- A collection of organized data that is stored in a way that allows for efficient retrieval and manipulation.
- Consists of database management system (DBMS), database schema, data storage, and data retrieval and manipulation tools.
- Types of database systems include relational database management systems (RDBMS), object-oriented database management systems (OODBMS), and NoSQL database systems.
Operating System
- A set of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services to computer programs.
- Functions include process management, memory management, file system management, input/output (I/O) management, and security management.
- Types of operating systems include single-user, single-tasking systems, multi-user, single-tasking systems, multi-user, multi-tasking systems, and real-time operating systems.
Information System
- A set of integrated components that collect, store, and provide access to information.
- Consists of hardware components (e.g. computers, servers), software components (e.g. applications, operating systems), data components (e.g. databases, files), network components (e.g. internet, intranet), and human components (e.g. users, administrators).
- Types of information systems include transaction processing systems, management information systems, decision support systems, and expert systems.
Nervous System
- A complex system of nerve cells (neurons) that transmit and process information in the body.
