• Consists of hardware components (e.g. computers, servers), software components (e.g. applications, operating systems), data components (e.g. databases, files), network components (e.g. internet, intranet), and human components (e.g. users, administrators).
• Types of information systems include transaction processing systems, management information systems, decision support systems, and expert systems.

Nervous System

• A complex system of nerve cells (neurons) that transmit and process information in the body.
• Consists of central nervous system (CNS): brain and spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system (PNS): nerves and ganglia outside the CNS.
• Functions include control and coordination of body functions, sensory input and perception, motor control and movement, and regulation of body functions (e.g. heart rate, blood pressure).
• Divided into somatic nervous system: controls voluntary movements, and autonomic nervous system: controls involuntary movements (e.g. heart rate, digestion).
