Noah and the Vineyard

  • Noah, the first tiller of the soil, plants a vineyard.
  • He drinks wine, becomes drunk, and uncovers himself in his tent.
  • Ham, his son, sees his father's nakedness and tells his brothers, Shem and Japheth.
  • Shem and Japheth cover their father's nakedness without looking at him.

Noah's Curse

  • Noah wakes up, learns what Ham has done, and curses Canaan, Ham's son.
  • He says, "Cursed be Canaan; the lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers."
  • Noah also blesses Shem and Japheth, asking God to enlarge Japheth and make him dwell in Shem's tents.
