Introduction to Gender-Based Violence
- GBV occurs in all areas of life, with the family being the most common place where women experience violence.
- Nearly one-third (30%) of all women worldwide have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner (WHO, 2013).

Concept of Gender-Based Violence

Forms of Gender-Based Violence Against Women
- Overt physical abuse (battering, sexual assault, etc.).
- Psychological abuse (deprivation of liberty, forced marriage, sexual harassment, etc.).
- Deprivation of resources needed for physical and psychological well-being (health care, nutrition, education, etc.).
- Treatment of women as commodities and men as load carriers or beasts of burden (trafficking for sexual exploitation).
