Study Notes

Important Freight Stock Modifications

  • Wheels, Axles, Bearings: Modifications include adopting a worn wheel profile for all BG wheels, adding an intermediate profile for wagon wheels, and stamping overhauling dates on backing rings. Non-use of seal wear rings with vent holes is also listed. Phasing out wheels with sprag holes is another change.

Wagon Super Structure and Brake Rigging

  • Strengthening: Horizontal lever supports for large BOXN/BCNA wagons are to be strengthened. Anti-rotation lugs are added to empty tie rod couplings for BOXN/BCN wagons. Stiffener angles are provided on axle guards of BVZC wagons. Diameter of control rods for IRSA-600 wagons is increased (from 28 to 32 mm). Side brackets are added with links for BRH/BRN wagons to secure steel plant consignments.

Coupler & Draft Gears

  • Modifications: Fitting modified striker castings and wear plates in CBC components is a key change.

Air Brake System

  • Modifications: Standardization of isolating handles on DV, modifications to filtering arrangements for C3W DV, inclusion of additional APD components for DV, strengthening of APD, modification of piping for BVZC wagons' quick couplings, and changes to hose couplings and locking arrangements are some of the modifications outlined.
