- Employed to maintain a reserve of resources on-scene and centralize operations.
- Requires the implementation of a Staging Sector Officer.
- Activated for all greater alarm incidents and certain first alarm medical or hazardous materials scenarios.
Staging Area Management
- Staging Area located away from the Command Post and emergency scene to reduce congestion, yet close enough for quick response.
- Command will provide an approximate location for the Staging Area and request a separate radio channel.
- Companies already at Level I Staging remain until directed otherwise by Command; all other units proceed to Level II.
Communication Protocols
- Responding units must monitor both tactical and staging radio channels.
- When call for additional resources is made, Command considers Level II Staging for efficiency.
- Upon arrival at the Staging Area, the first fire department officer becomes the Staging Officer if none designated.
Responsibilities of Staging Officers
- Staging Officers manage Staging operations, including directing resource assignments.
- Due to limited ladder companies, first arriving engine company officer takes over Staging responsibilities from ladder officers.
