    Promotion Eligibility

    • To be eligible for promotion, firefighters must meet the requirements listed in the job description for the position.
    • Eligibility is determined by the date of hire into a bargaining unit position or rank. This may be different from the seniority date.
    • Members must meet the years of service and rank by October 1st of the testing year.
    • In addition to job description requirements, personnel must meet training standards outlined by the department.

    B-List Eligibility

    • The department may determine if a rank requires a "B-List" to minimize repeated testing.
    • When a "B-List" is needed, it will be announced with the study materials by July 1st.
    • Personnel not eligible to test in the current cycle but eligible in the next cycle (2 years later) are eligible to test and be placed on a "B-List."
    • SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) will be chosen from personnel holding the rank that is being tested or a higher rank.
    • SMEs will validate written test questions and help develop assessment center components.
    • Individuals interested in being SMEs must submit their information by July 15th.
    • Selected SMEs sign a letter relinquishing their ability to test in the current promotion process and a confidentiality document.
