    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    • All Spring Fire Department members receive a set of PPE
    • The PPE set is issued upon the member's initial visit to the Quartermasters department
    • The PPE set includes items such as Structural Firefighting Coats, Pants, Boots, Helmet, Hoods, Gloves, Scott SCBA Mask, Rescue Gloves, a Reflective Traffic Vest, a Gear Bag, and Work Gloves.
    • Officers receive a department-issued helmet camera
    • Rescue Team PPE includes a separate set of equipment including an Equipment Bag, Harness, Dry Suit, Water Shoes, Life Jacket, Helmet with light, and Rope Gloves.

    Approved Non-Issued PPE

    • Members can wear personal non-issued PPE with written permission from the Deputy Chief of Support Services
    • Wildland gear is approved if it meets or exceeds NFPA or United States Forest Service Standards

    Helmet Placards

    • Helmet Placards are intended to indicate a member's rank
    • Other types of helmet placards are strictly prohibited
    • If a member chooses to purchase their own helmet placard it shall adhere to the exact specifications set forth within the guideline
    • The Deputy Chief of Support Services must give written permission before a member purchases or places a personal helmet placard on their department-issued helmet.

    Ensemble Exposure & Mitigation

    • Ensembles exposed to contaminants such as bulk chemicals, asbestos, bodily substances, microbial contamination, or products of combustion, are subjected to preliminary Exposure Reduction
    • If the Ensemble and ensemble elements are soiled, the ensemble shall be subjected to advanced cleaning.
    • Ensembles contaminated by CBRN terrorism agents shall be immediately retired and not subjected to cleaning.
    • CBRN contaminated ensemble elements shall be doffed as soon as possible, bagged, and disposed of as hazardous waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations

    ### Ensemble Maintenance and Repair

    • The Quartermaster division coordinates and manages all basic PPE and advanced repairs utilizing manufactured approved techniques, equipment, and materials.
    • All elements shall be subjected to an advanced or specialized cleaning before any repair work is done.
    • Loaner PPE will be issued to members while repairs are being made.
    • All repairs must meet NFPA 1971.

    ### Training

    • Upon issue, all members shall be provided with the manufacturer written instructions on the care, use, and maintenance of their PPE.
    • New Firefighters receive training on the care, use, and maintenance of their PPE before participating in live fire training and responding to actual incidents.
