Exercise Goals
- To initiate reflection and dialogue around personal values.
Materials Required
- Post-it notes
- Pens or markers
Exercise Instructions
- Participants receive post-it notes and write down ten things they value most in life, expressing each as a value like “friendship,” “family,” or “honesty.”
- Participants spread out their post-its and are given 30 seconds to discard the three least important values.
- They then have 20 seconds to discard two more post-its, and another 20 seconds to discard two final post-its, leaving them with three most important values.
- Participants reflect on the remaining values individually for 15 minutes, followed by group discussions for 30 minutes, considering the following questions:
- How do I feel about the values I ended up with?
- How do these values show themselves in my everyday life?
- What actions do I already take to live by them?
- What actions would I like to take to live by them?
