Bayreuth Festival

• Performances occur in the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, designed by Wagner for optimal sound
• It is a social event attended by Germany's cultural and political elite

Bregenz Festival

• Each July and August in Bregenz, Austria, the Bregenz Festival presents opera al fresco
• Festival attracts approximately 200,000 visitors
• The location is near Lake Constance, in Vorarlberg, by the Alps
• The festival includes debut opera performances, concertante treasures, and operatic literature

• Includes musical, theatrical, and other cultural events, and incorporates music, theatre, dance, and visual arts

Glyndebourne Festival Opera

• The Glyndebourne Festival Opera began in 1934 with the love story of John Christie and Audrey Mildmay in Glyndebourne, United Kingdom
• An opera house that delivers some 150,000 performances across the summer and autumn
• The Festival is from May to August and is a flagship season of world-class opera in an indoor auditorium

Festival of Dance

• The Khajuraho Dance Festival is organized by the Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad
• Takes place annually beside the Khajuraho temples in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh state in central India
• The festival takes place every year in February from the 20th-26th

• TEFAF was established in 1988 in Maastricht, Netherlands

Stars of the White Nights

• The festival celebrates its near-midnight sun phenomena due to its location near the Arctic Circle
• The Skies only reach twilight and never complete darkness from April 21st to August 21st

Santa Fe Opera

• The Santa Fe Opera (SFO) is located 7 miles north of Sante Fe, New Mexico after creating the Opera Association of New Mexico in 1956
• Since July 1957, the operatic company has presented operas each summer festival season
• The festival has presented 43 American premieres and 15 world premieres as of 2017

Arena di Verona

• Verona Arena Festival takes place in Verona, Italy
• Since 1936, it has been organized under the Autonomous organization for lyrical productions of the Arena di Verona
• Performances are given in Arena di Verona, an ancient Roman amphitheater that held 30,000 spectators

• The International Ramayana Festival takes place at Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta
• Nine countries put their own twists on the Hindu epic Ramayana
• Countries include Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand

Mask Dance Festival

• The Andong Mask Dance Festival takes place every year at the end of September in Andong, South Korea
• It is the largest mask festival in the world that includes music, dance, and good food
• The location is home of the UNESCO World Heritage designation Andong Hahoe Village

Diwali

• Diwali (Festival of Lights) is a Hindu festival celebrated in India and other countries
• It marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil
• People celebrate by lighting oil lamps, decorating homes, bursting fireworks, exchanging sweets, and praying for prosperity

St. Patrick's Day

• St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17 to honor St. Patrick
• The festival involves wearing green, attending parades, and enjoying Irish music and food
• Shamrocks and good luck are known for St. Patrick's Day

The Burning Man

• Burning Man is an annual arts and cultural held in the Nevada desert
• Known for its art installations, music, and self-expression, and follows a "leave no trace" principle
• There is the burning of a large wooden "Man" to represent letting go and new beginnings

Inti Raymi

• Inti Raymi is a celebration of the God Sun observed in Cuzco, Peru
• The first Inca, Pachacutec, created it to celebrate the winter solstice
• Took place on June 24th in the city of Cusco
• The Inca Pachacutec established the Inti Raymi in 1430 A.C.

Chinese New Year

• Hong Kong Chinese New Year Celebrations are some of the liveliest celebrations and occur in Hong Kong
• Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first moon of the Lunar Calendar, which generally falls in January or February, known as the Lunar or Spring Festival

Esala Perahera

• Esala Perahera is held at Kandy, Sri Lanka, over 10 days leading up to the Esala Poya day, and the festival dates back to ancient Anuradhapura
• The relic is carried at the head of an enormous procession that winds its way round and round the city by night
• The festival includes elephants, dancers, drummers, and acrobats

• Key dates are 14-16th April in The People’s Democratic Republic of Laos which marks the festival of ປີໃຫມ່ (Pimai Lao or the Lao New Year)

Fiesta de San Fermin

• A Spanish festival which honors Saint Fermin
• The festival begins at noon on July 6 and ending at midnight on July 14 in Pamplona, Spain
• Pamplona’s fiesta starts with fireworks called chupinazo and singing of the traditional song “Pamploneses, Viva San Fermín, Gora San Fermín”

• The Sapporo Snow Festival is held during one week every February in Hokkaido's capital Sapporo
• Started in 1950, when high school students built a few snow statues in Odori Park
• There are spectacular snow and ice sculptures and the festival staged attracts over two million visitors

• The race held on 8 September 1402 in Siena, Italy
• Castel del Piano’s palio is run in honour of the Madonna della Grazia Midsummer
• Festival Celebrates the beginning of summer, and takes place between June 19 and June 25
• Aster combines folklore with midsummer traditions associated with the birth of John the Baptist

Loi Krathong

• Refers to Krathong is a Thai term which refers to a piece of banana trunk decorated with flowers, banana leaves, candle and incense sticks
• Occurs on the evening of the full moon during the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar

Carnivale di Venezia

• Is also known as the Carnevale di Venezia one of the most famous carnivals around the world
• Becoming a public festivity in 1296, with an act of the Senate of the Republic of Venice, but its origins are even older
