Study Notes

Epidemiology of Hodgkin Lymphoma

  • Annual incidence of Hodgkin Lymphoma in the UK is 2.7 per 100,000 people
  • Two incidence peaks occur at ages 20-34 and over 70

Initial Work-Up

  • Blood tests: FBC, ESR, U&E, LFT, Bone profile, HIV, Hep B, Hep C
  • Biopsy is necessary to determine histological subtype
  • 4 histological subtypes of Hodgkin Lymphoma: Nodular sclerosis, Mixed cellularity, Lymphocyte-rich, Lymphocyte-depleted
  • No difference in outcomes among histological subtypes

Imaging and Staging

  • PET-CT is used for staging and detects bone involvement
  • BM biopsy is not required
  • Fertility preservation should be considered prior to treatment

Staging

  • Early stages: Stage I and II
  • Favourable prognosis (GHSG) requires:
    • No large mediastinal mass
    • Normal ESR
