- Apostrophes are used to show the omission of a letter (contraction) in positive and negative sentences.
- Positive contractions:
- I am - I'm
- You are - You're
- He is - He's
- She is - She's
- It is - It's
- We are - We're
- They are - They're
- Negative contractions:
- Are not - Aren't
- Is not - Isn't
- Do not - Don't
- Should not - Shouldn't
- Apostrophes are used to show possession/ownership:

Exceptions
- Possessive pronouns do not use apostrophes:
