Emergency Exiting

  • Orders given to Hot Zone Entry Team(s) to exit an incident must be acknowledged and obeyed immediately.
  • In the event of equipment failure or team member injury, the Hot Zone Entry Team must exit the Hot Zone immediately.

Decontamination

  • The Hot Zone Entry Officer ensures no persons enter the Hot Zone until suitable decontamination procedures are in place and decontamination personnel are ready.
  • Hot Zone Entry Team(s) returning from the Hot Zone Sector must report to the Decontamination Area with a minimum of one quarter (¼) cylinder air pressure remaining.
  • Personnel presenting themselves for decontamination become the responsibility of the Decontamination Officer and must act on the orders of the Decontamination Crew.

Rehabilitation

  • Personnel completing decontamination must present themselves to Rehabilitation (Rehab) for replenishment of fluids and cool down, and receive medical monitoring.
  • After Rehab, personnel who served in Totally Encapsulating Vapour Protective Chemical Suits at an incident should be relieved of further duties as personnel resources permit.

Notifications

  • CANUTEC is the Canadian Transport Emergency Centre operated by the Transport Dangerous Goods Directorate of Transport Canada.
  • CANUTEC can be contacted at (613) 996-6666 (24 hours) for emergency, and (613) 992-4624 (24 hours) for non-emergency.
  • Federal and provincial regulations require the reporting of dangerous goods incidents to certain authorities, including local Police, federal agencies, and CANUTEC in specific cases.
  • Notifications are required in cases of lost, stolen, or misplaced explosives, radioactive materials, or infectious substances.

Emergency Request Procedure – Airspace NOTAM Notice to Airmen Format

  • The Incident Commander may request a “NOTAM” (Notice to Airmen) flight exclusion zone be issued by Transport Canada in cases of toxic cloud, air traffic congestion, rotor wash disturbance, or BLEVE hazard.
  • The request should be made through the TFS Communications Centre to the Emergency Air Operations Centre at (877) 992-6853.
  • The Incident Commander should request termination of the NOTAM through the TFS Communications Centre at the conclusion of the incident or need for the NOTAM.
