National Integrated Emergency Medicine Training - Participant’s Manual
- This manual is for participants in the National Integrated Emergency Medicine Training.
- It is an in-service training package approved by the Federal Ministry of Health in Ethiopia in October 2015.
- The aim is to improve the quality and accessibility of health services at all levels of the decentralized health system in Ethiopia.
Course Overview
- Aims to teach basic emergency medicine knowledge and skills to healthcare workers.
- Designed for both pre-hospital and hospital settings with available resources.
- A goal is improved knowledge and skill in handling and resuscitating critically ill or injured patients.
- After completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the emergency unit organization and function.
- Detect and manage the ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation).
- Describe and manage medical, surgical, gynecological, obstetric, and pediatric emergencies.
- The course lasts 5 days, totaling 30 hours.
- Course evaluation is based on documents, training content, instructors, facilities, time, interactions, and trainee feedback.

- Interactive lectures, demonstrations, brainstorming, small group discussions, individual/group exercises, role-plays, simulations, videotapes, facility visits.
