Safety Precautions

• Handling ESD sensitive components requires a properly grounded and protected ESD workbench
• When handling ESD sensitive components, ground yourself to the equipment chassis before touching the boards

TMOS Principles of Operation

• The TMOS is comprised of three different systems that have been incorporated to enhance the ability to monitor and exploit weather events.
• The systems include weather equipment for monitoring changing weather conditions.

Weather Equipment

• Pressure Sensor, PMT16A: measures pressure from 600 to 1100 hPa.
• Wind Sensor, WMS302M: measures wind speed from 0.5 to 60 m/s and wind direction from 0 to 359°.
• Sensor Arm QMA102M: includes a rain gauge that measures rain fall from 0.2 mm (1/128 in) to 144 mm/h (5.7 in/h).
• Temperature and Humidity Sensor, HMP45DX: measures temperature from -40 to +60 °C (-40 °F to +140 °F) and humidity from 0 to 100%.
• Ceilometer, CT25KAM: measures cloud height up to 7.5 km (0 to 25,000 ft).

TODO Account Management

• A Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated (GOCO) TODO TM Account has a government ship-to address and is established for direct support of a day-to-day government mission/activity.
• TODOs are required to support the government mission and are independent of the contract.
• The TM Account is established and managed on a government installation computer network (forms and orders submitted from a “.mil” or “.gov” domain).
• These TODOs are considered government TODOs (TM account code F*xxxx) and are allowed to FTP TO Publication Requests directly to the Tinker gateway.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

• Failure to work with a Technician may lead to an incorrect part being replaced, causing a longer downtime for the system.
• When a problem or issue cannot be fixed over the phone or through email correspondence, contact the Raytheon Tactical Weather Help Desk to arrange the shipment of a replacement part.
• The Raytheon Tactical Weather Help Desk Technician will request the serial number of the broken part (when applicable) and send a return-shipping document, ensuring no out-of-pocket expenses for the shipment.
• Prior to shipment, the customer must provide the failure, warning or alarm messages, or physical damage to the part, and prepare the damaged part for shipping by cleaning and packaging in the original container.
• The customer's local Transportation/Shipping Office can help with proper packaging.

Health and Safety Concerns

• Figure 1-3 depicts parts returned to Raytheon from different locations, showing hazardous conditions, such as bird droppings, which can be dangerous to handle.

RF Communications

• Pacific Crest RF Modem (RFM96W) will continue to be used but are being replaced with new Af RF modems through attrition.
• The RFM96W modems transmit data from the TMOS sensors and data logger to the laptop as needed by distance, where AOS software converts the raw data into a weather observation for transmission.
• To program the RFM96W Pacific Crest RF Modems, the user needs to use Pacific Crest's "PDLCONF" Program, Dealer Revision 4.00.

• The Af RF modems are a form/fit/function replacement for the RFM96W Pacific Crest RF modems.

Organizational Needs for TOs

• The need for TOs is dependent on the performance and delivery of government contract tasks and will lapse when the contract expires.

Completing AFTO Form 43

• Blocks 4a, 4b, 4c, and 4d: Select one block to indicate the type of TODO (Standard, Nuclear Weapon, Nuclear Related EOD, or Non-nuclear EOD).
• Block 4e: Select if the organization is an Air Force activity and enter the parent MAJCOM (ACC, AMC, etc.).
• Block 4f: Select if the organization is another government activity (non-USAF) and enter the department or agency (Army, Navy, DOE, etc.).

TODO Personnel

• Enter the names, phone numbers, email addresses, and signatures of TODO personnel authorized to submit TO orders.
• A minimum of two names is required, with the first individual being the primary TODO and the second and third as alternates.

Shipment and Storage

• Each carton should be addressed on the inner wrapping with the same information as the invoice.
• Components are not interchangeable among transit cases.
• Store all sensors and devices in their respective transit cases.
• The system is packed into QTR101, QTR102, QTR104, and QTR105 transit cases, with QTR103 containing spares and tool kit.

TMOS Reporting

Safety Precautions

• Handle ESD sensitive components on a properly grounded and protected ESD workbench to prevent damage from electrostatic discharges.
• Ground yourself to the equipment chassis before touching the boards, or use a wrist strap and a resistive connection cord, or touch a conductive part of the equipment chassis with your other hand.
• Always hold boards by the edges and avoid touching the component contacts.

Class 1 LASER Product

• The instrument contains Class 1 LASER products and is intended for operation in an area restricted from public access.
• The Ceilometer must be pointed vertically or near-vertically when in operation.
• Never look directly into the Laser.
• Only trained personnel should perform maintenance functions.
• No user serviceable parts are installed.

AC Voltage and Explosive Environments

• The instrument is powered by 120 or 240 Vac, so caution should be taken when performing maintenance functions.
• Do not attempt to plug or unplug tripod into A/C commercial power when it is in standing water or when A/C connectors are wet, as it can cause serious injury or death from electrical shock.
• RF Modems produce a signal which may interfere with some detonation devices that are controlled by RF Radio Signals.
• Always check with the local Frequency Manager for useable frequencies prior to using any RF Modem.
• Do not operate in an explosive atmosphere or in the presence of flammable gases or fumes.

TODO Account and ETIMS

• Upon receipt of the approved AFTO Form 43, the primary TODO should access and use the ETIMS account associated with the JCALS TM account number.
• The primary TODO must enter the shipping address from block 3 of the AFTO Form 43 in ETIMS using the address button on the Office screen.
• The primary TODO should request an AMHS account be established corresponding to their TODO account number within the TODO folder at their location.

Laser and Instrumentation

• The QMR101M rain gauge is a self-emptying, frostproof electronic rain gauge that registers precipitation at 0.2 mm resolution.
