define electromagnetic radiation
Electromagnetic (EM) radiation is a form of energy and includes the waves of the electromagnetic field such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays. EM waves make up EM radiation.
Explain electromagnetic radiation in terms of electric fields and magnetic fields
Explain electromagnetic radiation in terms of electric fields and magnetic fields
EM waves make up EM radiation. EM waves are transverse waves and do not need a medium to propagate thus they can travel in a vacuum. An EM waves consists of magnetic and electric fields at right angles to each other and the direction of propagation of the wave. All EM waves travel at the speed of light and the energy of the EM waves is stored in its electric and magnetic fields.
