Elections in a Roman Town
- The citizens of the town are preparing for the elections to choose new duoviri, the town magistrates.
- Campaign posters, painted on the walls of houses, are displayed throughout the town, promoting various candidates.
- The candidates are seen walking through the streets, wearing white togas, accompanied by a crowd of supporters.
- They give speeches and make promises, but few people trust them.
- There is a lively discussion in a tavern about the candidates.
- Ganymēdēs, a complaining old man, doesn't trust any candidate because they all make promises they don't keep.
- Philērus agrees and calls Chrysanthus, who is now very rich, a thief because he once was poor enough to eat scraps from the dung heap.
- Flaccus urges his friends to go to the comitium, the polling station, and vote.
- On the way to the polling station, they meet two candidates, one supported by the bakers and the other by the muleteers.
