Droperidol Overview
- Class: Sedative / Hypnotic
Mechanism of Action
- Acts as a potent neuroleptic tranquilizer
- Effectively suppresses nausea and vomiting
Clinical Indications
- Used for sedation of combative patients to enable chemical restraint
- Treats nausea and vomiting that do not respond to ondansetron (Zofran)
Dosage and Administration
- For sedation:
- Administer 2.5 mg IV, with a maximum dose of 5 mg
- Administer 5 mg IM, with a maximum dose of 10 mg
- For nausea and vomiting:
- Administer 0.625 mg IV
