- When a person's behavior is inconsistent with their alcohol intake or suspected to be caused by other substances, follow the Prisoner Safety section of Appendix A.
- If the detention of a person is not required, release them according to chapter 1 procedures. In case of a young person, notify a parent or guardian.
- If the detention is necessary, continue the investigation with arresting officer and detective personnel. Allow specific individuals to interview the person in custody.
- When turning over a person to another law enforcement agency, ensure proper completion of reports, provide all relevant information, and return officers to active duty.
- Upon completion of an investigation, properly complete reports, serve young person's YCJA Parent document, and release or detain the person accordingly.
- When receiving a person for lodging in police cells, ensure segregation of genders, accommodations for young persons, and attend to the condition of the person.
- Regularly check the physical and medical condition of persons in police cells, record checks, provide necessary medical attention, and check for contraband.
