    Dermatomen Overview

    • Refers to skin areas supplied by single spinal nerve roots.
    • Essential for diagnosing nerve injuries and conditions.

    Cervical Nerves (C2 - C8)

    • C2: Covers the posterior scalp and upper neck.
    • C3: Sensation in the lower neck and part of the jaw area.
    • C4: Supplies the shoulder area, upper chest, and parts of the diaphragm.
    • C5: Front and outer aspect of the arm, shoulder area.
    • C6: Extends down to the thumb and part of the forearm.
    • C7: Sensation across the middle finger and back of the arm.
    • C8: Covers the little finger and part of the forearm.

    Thoracic Nerves (T1 - T12)

    • T1: Involves the inner arm and upper chest areas.
    • T2: Sensation around the upper chest and back areas.
    • T3: Covers the areas around the third thoracic vertebra (upper back).
    • T4: Associated with sensations around the nipple line.
    • T5: Supplies the area just below the nipple.
    • T6: Covers the lower chest and upper abdomen.
    • T7: Sensation in the mid-abdomen area.
    • T8: Involves sensation in the lower abdominal region.
    • T9: Supplies the area around the lower ribs.
    • T10: Covers sensations around the umbilicus (belly button).
    • T11: Sensation in the area just below the umbilicus.
    • T12: Involves sensations in the lower abdomen and groin region.

    Lumbar Nerves (L1 - L5)

    • L1: Covers the front and inner aspects of the hip.
    • L2: Involves sensations in the thigh, areas above the knee.
    • L3: Supplies the lower thigh and inner knee area.
    • L4: Covers sensation around the medial aspect of the lower leg and foot.
    • L5: Supplies the lateral aspect of the leg and dorsum (top) of the foot.

    Sacral Nerves (S1 - S5)

    • S1: Covers the heel, lateral foot, and back of the leg.
    • S2: Supplies sensations in the posterior aspect of the leg.
    • S3: Involves the area around the buttocks and perineum.
    • S4: Covers the saddle area (genital region).
    • S5: Supplies sensation in the very lower area of the perineum.
