General Guidelines
- Members are prohibited from contacting OSFM directly for inquiries.
- Exam requests must be made at least 30 days in advance of the desired date.
- City email is mandatory for signing up; personal emails should not be used.
- CFD FDID# is CS931.
Vehicle Operator Certification Requirements (GO 20-006)
- Vehicle categories classified into four types:
- Category 1: Engines
- Category 2: Tower Ladders
- Category 3: Aerial Towers/Trucks over 68,000 lbs
- Category 4: Trucks under 68,000 lbs (Squads, Snorkels, HazMat)
- CFD members are typically certified to drive vehicles in categories lower than their own, except for Engines, which require engineer certification.
- To obtain a Class B (Non-CDL) permit:
- Report to a secretary of state license facility, complete the written exam, and receive a permit.
- Vehicle Operator Certification requires:
- 12 months field experience
- OSFM FSVO Certification
- Class B (Non-CDL) permit
- Completion of training: 12 hours driving and 8 hours operating
- Approval from company officer or BC in absence of officer.
Seat Safety Belts Policy (GO 20-005)
- Personnel in ambulance patient compartments are exempt from seatbelt use only during critical life-saving tasks (e.g., CPR).
- Report missing or defective seatbelt assemblies to Bureau of Logistics.
- Delays in repairs must be communicated through the chain of command to CFD Director of Safety.
Discrimination/Harassment Policy (GO 20-004)
- DHR EEO Division conducts harassment investigation interviews, contacting involved employees to schedule interviews either on or off-duty.
- On-duty employees report to QFA for scheduling; off-duty employees report directly to EEO location and receive overtime pay.
Social Media/Social Networking Policy (GO 20-002)
- Free speech is allowed as long as it does not interfere with CFD operations or harm working relationships and public trust.
- Photos or videos during emergency response are prohibited unless authorized by the Fire Commissioner.
- All accidents must be documented, involving report forms 950, 951, 952, and 953.
