- Un desfibrilador externo automático (DEA) es un dispositivo que detecta si el corazón requiere una descarga para volver a funcionar correctamente.
- Independientemente del tipo o modelo, todos los DEA tienen 4 pasos universales.
Pasos para usar un DEA
- Encender el DEA: Algunos desfibriladores se encienden al quitar la tapa, otros requieren presionar un botón.
- Colocar los parches: Descubrir el pecho de la víctima, retirar la cubierta adhesiva de los parches, observar el esquema grabado en los parches y colocarlos donde se indica.
- Permitir que el DEA analice el ritmo cardiaco de la víctima: Conectar los cables de los parches al DEA y alejarse del paciente para que identifique si es o no necesario administrar una descarga.
- Proporcionar una descarga: Si el DEA indica que se necesita una descarga, decir en voz alta "Apártense todos, nadie toque a la víctima", oprimir el botón, proporcionar la descarga y reanudar las compresiones.
- Si el DEA indica que no se necesita una descarga, reanudar de manera inmediata las compresiones torácicas.
- Si se está solo, se deben detener las compresiones para usar el DEA.
- Si hay otra persona que pueda ayudar, se puede continuar administrando compresiones mientras coloca los parches.
Situaciones especiales
- Existen situaciones especiales en las cuales se deben realizar otras acciones de manera previa para ocupar el DEA.
- Si la víctima está sumergida en el agua, secar bien su pecho antes de colocar los parches.
- Vello: Si la persona tiene vello en su pecho, rasurarlo antes de poner los parches.
- Parches de medicamento: Si la víctima tiene parches de medicamento como analgésicos, hormonales, nicotina o nitroglicerina, retirarlos y limpiar su pecho con una toalla antes de colocar los parches del desfibrilador.
- Marcapasos implantados: Si la víctima tiene un bulto duro por debajo de la piel en la parte superior de su pecho, colocar el parche a un lado; si lo colocas en el marcapasos, la descarga será ineficiente y podría causarle dolor.
- Niños: Se necesitan parches para niños, si no se tienen, usar parches para adultos, colocando uno en su pecho y otro en su espalda.
- Lactantes: Si la víctima tiene menos de 1 año, no se recomienda que se utilice el DEA.
- Independientemente de la edad, recordar que la seguridad personal y la de los demás es lo primero.
