  • CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test
  • It is a national-level examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for Classes I to VIII

Objectives of CTET

  • To ensure that persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at the elementary and secondary stages
  • To bring national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process
  • To induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Paper I (Classes I to V):
    • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
    • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002
  • For Paper II (Classes VI to VIII):
    • Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
    • Bachelor's Degree with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002

Exam Pattern

  • Paper I (Classes I to V):
    • 150 objective-type questions
    • 2.5 hours duration
    • Four sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies
  • Paper II (Classes VI to VIII):
    • 150 objective-type questions
    • 2.5 hours duration
    • Four sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science, and Social Studies/Social Science
