What is CTET?
- CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test
- It is a national-level examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for Classes I to VIII
Objectives of CTET
- To ensure that persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at the elementary and secondary stages
- To bring national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process
- To induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards
Eligibility Criteria
- For Paper I (Classes I to V):
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002
- For Paper II (Classes VI to VIII):
- Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
- Bachelor's Degree with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002
Exam Pattern
- Paper I (Classes I to V):
- 150 objective-type questions
- 2.5 hours duration
- Four sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies
- Paper II (Classes VI to VIII):
- 150 objective-type questions
- 2.5 hours duration
- Four sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science, and Social Studies/Social Science
Validity of CTET Certificate
- The CTET certificate is valid for 7 years from the date of declaration of results
- There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can take to acquire a CTET certificate
