Coordinate Planes
- A coordinate plane is a two-dimensional plane formed by the intersection of two perpendicular lines: the x-axis and the y-axis.
- The x-axis is the horizontal line, and the y-axis is the vertical line.
- The point of intersection of the x-axis and the y-axis is called the origin (0, 0).
Quadrants
- The coordinate plane is divided into four quadrants by the x-axis and the y-axis.
- Quadrants are numbered in a counterclockwise direction:
- Quadrant I: Upper right quadrant, where x > 0 and y > 0.
- Quadrant II: Upper left quadrant, where x < 0 and y > 0.
- Quadrant III: Lower left quadrant, where x < 0 and y < 0.
- Quadrant IV: Lower right quadrant, where x > 0 and y < 0.
- Each quadrant has its own set of positive and negative coordinates.
Learn about the basics of coordinate planes, including the x-axis, y-axis, and quadrants. Understand how to identify and navigate the different quadrants in a coordinate plane.
