Content and Organization of Letter of Inquiry

  • An inside address contains the mailing information of the recipient, justified to the left margin, and placed two spaces below the date.

Salutation

  • If unsure about the title or gender, use only the first name.

Body of Letter

  • First paragraph: provides background information, states the purpose in one to two sentences.
  • Second paragraph: specifies the information being sought.
  • Final paragraph: expresses expectation from the addressee and thanks them in advance.

  • Three formats: Block Style, Semi-Block Style, and Modified Block Style.
