Switching On a Computer

• The first step is to turn on the computer, ensuring all cables are correctly plugged in.
• Locate the power button, which has a universal power button symbol.
• The location of the power button varies between computers.

Booting Up

• Once turned on, the computer takes time to become ready.
• Different displays may flash on the screen during this process, called booting up.
• The boot-up time can vary, ranging from 15 seconds to several minutes.

Signing In to Windows

• After booting up, the computer may be ready to use or may require a login.
• Logging in involves identifying yourself, often via a user name and password.
• If you haven't logged in before, you might need to create an account.

Using the Keyboard and Mouse

• You interact with computers primarily using the keyboard and mouse (or trackpad on laptops).
• Most people find it comfortable to place the keyboard directly in front of them on the desk and the mouse to one side of the keyboard.

Mouse Function

• The mouse controls the on-screen pointer.
• Moving the mouse across the desk moves the pointer in a similar manner.
• Most mice have two buttons: the left and the right.
