  • A resume is a concise document that highlights one's education, work experiences, and other qualifications.
  • The word "resume" originated from the French word "résumé", meaning "summary".

Parts of a Resume

  • Heading: includes name, address, mobile phone number, telephone number, and email address.
  • Objective: states what you are trying to accomplish in your career life.
  • Educational Background: includes school or university name, location, awards, achievements, prominent positions held, and certifications.
  • Work History: includes work experience, full-time and part-time jobs, internships, and projects.
  • Skills, Talents, and Abilities: showcases one's abilities or special knowledge essential for the job.
  • Other Relevant Data: indicates professional training in other areas of specialty.

Resume Writing Dos and Don'ts

  • DOS: use a sensible email, highlight strengths, attach a cover letter, and update regularly.
  • DON'TS: use "I's", abbreviate, add a date, or include personal information unless specified.

Employment Application Letter (Cover Letter)

  • Used to introduce oneself to a prospective employer.
  • The first paragraph should contain the introduction, mentioning how you found out about the job opening.
  • The second paragraph should contain detailed support for why you are qualified for the job.
  • The last part should summarize skills and abilities, and explain how you can be an asset to the company.
