Communication
- Communication is a systemic process in which people interact with each other and through symbols to understand each other.
- Symbols can be verbal or nonverbal.
- Examples of symbols include sounds, signs, or any behavior.
- Communication happens consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally.
Elements of Communication
- There are 5 key elements of communication:
- Sender: The person who initiates the communication.
- Message: The information or idea being conveyed.
- Channel: The medium through which the message is sent (e.g., verbal, visual, or written).
- Receiver: The person who receives and interprets the message.
- Feedback: The response given by the receiver to the sender.
The Communication Process
- Communication is a process involving encoding and decoding.
- Encoding refers to the sender translating their thoughts into a message.
- Decoding refers to the receiver interpreting the message.
- This process involves a continuous exchange of messages between sender and receiver.
- Feedback completes the communication process.
Channels
- Channels can be:
