Types of Goals

COAST Goals Components

- A (Assist Level): Indicates the level of independence required, including physical or verbal cues.
- S (Specific Condition): Details specific conditions such as location, modified techniques, or adaptive equipment required for the task.
- T (Timeline): Denotes the timeframe for accomplishing the goal.
Examples of COAST Goals
- Sam will don a t-shirt using an over-the-head method independently within one month.
- Client will demonstrate the ability to change a baby's diaper using adaptive one-handed methods with no more than three verbal cues within three weeks.
- Patient will go to bed before 11 PM at least 75% of weeknights within three weeks to obtain adequate sleep for effective job participation.
- Chantal will make at least three verbal contributions to group discussions with moderate verbal prompts five out of five days within three weeks.
