Dosage Forms
- Clindamycin hydrochloride: Available in capsules of 75mg, 150mg, and 300mg.
- Clindamycin palmitate hydrochloride: Offered as granules for oral solution at 75mg/5ml.
- Clindamycin phosphate: Available in injectable infusions in D5W (300mg/50ml, 600mg/50ml, 900mg/50ml) and multiple injection forms (150mg base/ml, 300mg base/2ml, 600mg base/4ml, 900mg base/6ml).
Mechanism of Action
- Works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome.
Indications
- Effective against infections caused by sensitive staphylococci, streptococci, pneumococci, and a range of anaerobic and aerobic organisms.
- Also used in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease.
Contraindications
