  • Dharmsal: Places for Sikh congregation and religious gatherings, also served as community centers for feeding the poor. Originally, specific buildings, later every Sikh home became one. Now known as Gurdwara.
  • Gurumukhi script: Conceived during the 16th century by Guru Nanak and popularized by Guru Angad. First Sikh Guru and second Sikh Guru, respectively.
  • Guru Nanak: Born at Talwandi, sang his own hymns for followers, introduced common kitchen called langar. Sacred place became dharmsala, now known as Gurdwara.
  • Khalsa Panth: Institution of the Sikh community as a political entity, emerged from politicized Sikh movement in the seventeenth century.
  • Kabir: Rejected major religious traditions, ridiculed external worship of Hinduism and Islam, believed in formless Supreme God, advocated for bhakti or devotion. Expressed ideas through spoken Hindi poetry and vast collections of verses called sakhis and pads.
