Define cell injury.

Cell injury is defined as changes in the internal and external environment of the cell due to a variety of stresses that the cell encounters.

What are the forms of cellular responses to injury?

1- Cellular adaptations, 2- Reversible cell injury, 3- Irreversible cell injury, 4- The residual effects of reversible cell injury may persist in the cell as evidence of cell injury at subcellular level or metabolites may accumulate within the cell.

What are the etiology of cell injury?

Genetic causes and acquired causes. Acquired causes can be further categorized as hypoxia and ischaemia, physical agents, chemical agents and drugs, microbial agents, immunologic agents, nutritional derangements, aging, psychogenic diseases, iatrogenic factors, and idiopathic diseases.

What is hypoxia?

Hypoxia is defined as inadequate oxygenation of tissue and is the most common cause of cell injury.

What are the major ways in which cells may be broadly injured?

Cells may be broadly injured by genetic causes and acquired causes.
