Study Notes
CE 313: Building System Design
- The course is about Building System Design (CE 313)
- The presenter is Engr. Iza Marie G. Leop
Outline
- Electrical System
- Rule XIII of the IRR of the NBCP: Electrical Regulations
- Philippine Electrical Code
- Other Building Service Systems
Electrical System Details
- Diagrams show components like lamps, cords, plugs, wall switches, power lines, sub-panels, main panels, circuit breakers, fuses, transformers, service drop, conduits, service entry wires, meters, and service head.
- Electrical distribution to buildings is described.
- Rule XIII of the IRR of the NBCP governs electrical regulations.
- Conductors exceeding 300V should be guarded or inaccessible to promote safety
- Electrical supply conductors near windows, verandas, fire escapes, should be properly guarded.
- Abandoned electrical lines should be removed.
- Service conductors must be installed in rigid steel or concrete encased plastic conduit from service drop to meter base to disconnect equipment.
- Capacitors on electric circuits with over 11L of flammable liquid must be in enclosures complying with PEC-1.
Philippine Electrical Code (PEC)
- Objectives include establishing quality and electrical work standards for safe use.
- This includes light, heat, power, communications, signaling
- PEC ensures safety and efficiency in electrical installations.
- It ensures future adaptability and does not need to be overdesigned.
- PEC part 1 covers indoor electrical installations
- PEC part 2 covers outdoor installations.
Scope of PEC
- Covers electric conductors, including optical fiber cable, installed within or on buildings, electrical generating plants, temporary/permanent substations, industrial plants, transformer stations, railway switchyards, yards, carnival, parking areas, watercraft, dockyards, airfields, quarries, mines etc
- Includes mobile homes, travel trailers, recreational vehicles, offshore facilities, and other premises requiring electrical installations.
Electrical Permit
- A form (DPWH Form No. 77-001-E) is used for electrical permits.
- For installations not exceeding 20 outlets or 4000 volt-amperes and up to 230 volts, a registered electrical engineer or master electrician can prepare and submit the application.
Electrical Drawings
- Drawings for the electrical system should include General Notes and Specifications, Legend and Symbols, Riser Diagram, Electrical Lighting and Power Lay-out, and Schedule of Loads and Computations.
- Schedule of Loads should be submitted as a PDF file via Google Classroom by specified date.
Building Services
- Building services are fundamental to creating comfortable, safe, functional structures.
- Building services design can account for 30-40% of the total costs of a building
- Various sub-systems are included, including water, drainage, and plumbing; energy supply (gas, electricity); heating and air conditioning; acoustic systems; natural and artificial lighting; escalators, elevators, telecommunication networks, security systems, fire detection and protection, and ventilation systems.
- Specific systems, like HVAC, fire alarms have their own sections outlining their functions and requirements
###Â Security and Alarm Systems
- Security and Alarm systems are installed to increase the safety and security of the property's occupants and contents.
- These systems communicate outside using cellular or landline connections.
Telephone and IT Networks
- Electronic plans and specifications for communication systems must be prepared and signed by an Electronics Engineer.
HVAC Systems
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems regulate indoor temperatures and air quality, essential for the well-being of occupants
Fire Alarm Systems
- This is a crucial safety feature in buildings, signaling fire emergencies to promptly evacuate occupants.
Laboratory Exercise
- Students need to submit their Schedule of Loads as a PDF file in Google Classroom.
- A quiz is scheduled.
