- Defined as person-to-person contact with co-mingling of respiratory secretions, transmission of blood or body fluids, or unprotected contact with mucous membranes or non-intact skin.
Policy
- Department members should take precautions to reduce the risk of contracting communicable diseases or exposure to hazardous materials.
- Communicable diseases may not display overt symptoms, but risks can be reduced through hand washing and preventive measures.
Prevention and Hygiene
- Washing hands with soap and water is essential, especially after:
- Touching another person or inanimate objects likely to be contaminated.
- Using antimicrobial hand wipes or antibacterial hand sanitizer solution.
- Antimicrobial hand wipes and/or antibacterial hand sanitizer solution can be used when soap and water are not available.
