Describe the flow path of the vapor entering C-360A/B Booster Cylinder, prior to compression.
The overhead vapor from D-360 first enters D-363A/B-1 (C-360A/B Booster Suction Bottles #1) and then D-363A/B-2 (C-360A/B Booster Suction Bottles #2) before entering C-360A/B Booster Cylinder.
What is the purpose of routing some of the vapor from D-361 back to D-360?
What is the purpose of routing some of the vapor from D-361 back to D-360?
The text does not explicitly state the reason, but it likely helps to control the vapor pressure in D-360 and to maintain the composition of the overhead vapor being sent to C-360A/B.

Study Notes
- C-360A/B consists of two separate cylinders.
Booster Cylinder
- The booster cylinder compresses overhead vapors from T-350 and T-380 to a pressure sufficient to feed T-370.
- A cooled two-phase stream from E-351 combines with a vapor recycle stream from D-380 and goes to D-360.
- Condensate is separated from the two-phase stream in D-360 and pumped by P-360A (D-360 Condensate Pump) to T-350.
- Overhead vapor from D-360 goes to C-360A/B Booster Cylinder, entering D-363A/B-1 and D-363A/B-2 before entering C-360A/B Booster Cylinder.
- Vapor exits C-360A/B Booster Cylinder, then goes to D-363A/B-3 and D-363A/B-4.
- The vapor stream from C-360A/B Booster Cylinder combines with the vapor stream from T-340.
- The combined vapor is routed to the shell side of E-360 and is cooled by cooling water on the tube side.
- The cooled vapor goes to D-361 (Deethenizer Drier K.O. Drum).
- Any liquid entrained in the cooled vapor is separated in D-361 and routed back to T-350.
- Some of the vapor is routed back to D-360.
Recycle Cylinder
- Overhead vapor from D-375 goes to C-360A/B Recycle Cylinder, entering D-363A/B-5 and D-363A/B-6 before entering C-360A/B.
- Vapor exits C-360A/B Recycle Cylinder, then goes to D-363A/B-7 and D-363A/B-8.
- The vapor is routed to D-110 and E-370.
- E-370 feed stream is maximized to minimize butene content to D-110, which subsequently minimizes butene to R-201-205.
- P-381 (Off Spec Butene Booster Pump) is used in this process.
Equipment Details
- Listed equipment: D-360, P-360A, C-360A/B, D-363A/B-1, D-363A/B-2, D-363A/B-3, D-363A/B-4, D-363A/B-5, D-363A/B-6, D-363A/B-7, D-363A/B-8.
D-360 (Booster Cylinder Suction Drum)
- Size: 2’6”D x 7’8”L.
- Equipped with an internal demister pad below the top vapor outlet to remove liquid from the two-phase stream from E-351 and the vapor recycle stream from the Debutenizer System.
- The two-phase stream enters the side, liquid exits the bottom, and vapor exits the top.
- A tangential entry nozzle aids in droplet disengagement by reducing liquid entrainment via cyclone action.
- A mesh stainless steel demister pad on the upper donut baffle prevents liquid entrainment in overhead vapors; the baffle has drain holes.
- A donut ring below the feed inlet nozzle minimizes turbulence transferred to the liquid surface in the drum bottom.
- Level controller and sight glass taps have stilling wells for accurate level measurement.
- The bottom liquid outlet nozzle has a vortex breaker.
P-360A (D-360 Condensate Pump)
- Positive displacement pump driven by a 7.5 HP induction electric motor.
- Routes condensate from D-360 to T-350.

- Single-stage, double acting compressors operating at 509 rpm and 450 hp.
- Compress vapor from D-360 to a pressure high enough to feed T-370.
