Study Notes

Booster/Recycle Compressors Overview

  • C-360A/B comprises two cylinders: Booster Cylinder and Recycle Cylinder.
  • The Booster Cylinder compresses overhead vapors from T-350 (Water Wash Tower) and T-380 (Debutenizer) to supply pressure to T-370 (Deethenizer).
  • The Recycle Cylinder compresses vapors from D-370 (Deethenizer Reflux Drum) to feed D-110 (Charge Gas Compressor Suction Drum).

Booster Cylinder Details

  • Cooled two-phase stream from E-351 (Water Wash Vapor Cooler) mixes with a vapor recycle stream from D-380 (Debutenizer Reflux Drum).
  • The mixed stream is sent to D-360 (Booster Cylinder Suction Drum), where condensate is separated.
  • D-360's condensate is pumped to T-350 (Water Wash Vapor Scrubber) via P-360A (D-360 Condensate Pump).
  • Overhead vapor from D-360 is directed to C-360A/B (Booster/Recycle Compressors) through D-363A/B-1 and D-363A/B-2 (Booster Suction Bottles).
  • Discharged vapor from the Booster Cylinder combines with vapor from T-340 (Caustic Wash Vapor Scrubber).
  • The combined vapor is cooled in E-360 (Deethenizer Feed Cooler) and enters D-361 (Deethenizer Drier K.O. Drum) to separate any liquid entrainment.
  • Some portion of vapor is recycled back to D-360 (Booster Cylinder Suction Drum).

Recycle Cylinder Functionality

  • Vapor from D-375 (Recycle Cylinder Suction Drum) feeds into C-360A/B (Booster/Recycle Compressors) Recycle Cylinder.
  • The vapor passes through D-363A/B-5 and D-363A/B-6 (Recycle Suction Bottles) before entering the Recycle Cylinder.
  • After compression, the vapor flows to D-110 (Charge Gas Compressor Suction Drum) and E-370 (Deethenizer Condenser).
  • Maximizing E-370 feed stream minimizes butene content to D-110, thereby reducing butene levels in R-201-205 (Reactors).

Crankcase Oil Management

  • Crankcase oil from D-140 (Crankcase Oil Storage Drum) is supplied to C-360A/B (Booster/Recycle Compressors) for lubrication.
  • Oil is pumped by P-361A/B-1 to either E-361A/B-1 or E-361A/B-2 (Lube Oil Coolers) for cooling.
  • P-361A/B-2 (Auxiliary Lube Oil Pumps) support start-up and stand-by operations.
  • The oil is filtered through F-361A/B-1 or F-361A/B-2 before reaching various bearings in CM-360A/B (Motor Drives).
  • Used oil returns to the Crankcase Frame Oil Reservoirs in C-360A/B.

Cooling System

  • Cooling water is directed to the inner head, booster cylinder jacket, and outer head of CM-360A/B (Motor Drives) to maintain temperature regulation.
