- In the early 16th century, Zaheer Uddin Babar established the Mughal dynasty and ruled India for 4 years.
- After Babar's death, his son Humayun succeeded him, but was not a strong leader, leading to Afghan chief Sher Shah Suri challenging his authority.
- Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun and established a large Suri empire, but Humayun recaptured his territories after 15 years.
- After Humayun's death, his son Akbar succeeded to the throne and by his early 30's, ruled an empire larger than what Babar had conquered.
- Akbar's son Jahangir succeeded him and introduced regulations on matters such as banning the manufacture of drugs and wine.
