    Unpaired Structures in the Brain

    • Basilar Artery

      • Formed by the confluence of the two vertebral arteries.
      • Supplies blood to the brainstem, cerebellum, and posterior part of the cerebral hemispheres.
      • Located at the base of the brain, it bifurcates into the posterior cerebral arteries.
    • Vertebral Artery

      • Arises from the subclavian arteries and ascends through the cervical spine.
      • Supplies blood to the posterior part of the brain and the spinal cord.
      • Contributes to the formation of the basilar artery.
    • Anterior Cerebral Artery

      • Branch of the internal carotid artery, supplies the frontal lobes and medial surfaces of the cerebral hemispheres.
      • Responsible for motor and sensory functions of the lower limbs and feet.
      • Connects with the opposite anterior cerebral artery via the anterior communicating artery.
    • Middle Cerebral Artery

      • Largest branch of the internal carotid artery, courses laterally to supply the lateral surfaces of the cerebral hemispheres.
      • Provides blood to areas involved in motor and sensory functions of the face and upper limbs.
      • Plays a key role in language in the dominant hemisphere and is often affected by ischemic strokes.
