Flashcards
Tunica Interna
Tunica Interna
The innermost layer of blood vessels; provides stretch and elasticity.
Tunica Media
Tunica Media
The middle layer of blood vessels; responsible for vasoconstriction and dilation.
Celiac Trunk

Study Notes
Blood Vessel Layers
- The tunica interna is the innermost layer, thin and provides elasticity.
- The tunica media is the middle layer, responsible for vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessel).
- The tunica externa is the outermost layer, providing structural support.
Arteries Supplying Specific Structures
- Upper Limb: Subclavian Artery
- Head & Brain: Common Carotid Artery
- Lower Limb/Pelvis: Common Iliac Artery
- Intestines: Superior Mesenteric Artery
- Spine: Vertebral Artery
- Anterior/Lateral Arm: Cephalic Vein (Note: veins are not the primary vessels supplying blood. Veins primarily drain blood from regions.)
- Liver, Spleen, Stomach: Celiac Artery
Abdominal Aorta Branches
- The celiac trunk supplies the liver, gallbladder, stomach, and spleen.
- The superior mesenteric artery supplies the small intestine and portions of the large intestine.
- The inferior mesenteric artery supplies portions of the large intestine.
