Biologie du Vivant - Hérédité et Information Génétique

    • Acides nucléiques: composed of nucleotides with 4 bases. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) are two key examples. DNA is a double helix with complementary base pairing (A-T, G-C).
    • DNA Structure: Double helix composed of two strands, each strand contains nucleotides. Nucleotides in each strand are paired with corresponding nucleotides on the opposite strand. This pairing of nucleotides (A with T and G with C) is a key feature of DNA structure.
    • DNA Composition: A gene is a small section of DNA that gives instructions for making a protein. The genome is all the DNA in a cell, and a chromosome is the spatial organization of a DNA molecule, containing numerous genes. Human cells have 22 pairs of autosomal chromosomes and 1 pair of sex chromosomes (XY in males and XX in females), for a total of 46.
    • Gene Expression (Transcription & Translation): DNA contains the information; mRNA carries the gene's instructions to the cytoplasm. Ribosomes in the cytoplasm read mRNA instructions to build proteins.
    • Transmission of Genetic Information: An allele is a variant form of a gene, and there are dominant and recessive alleles. The phenotype is the observable characteristic resulting from the interaction of alleles, like eye color. Homozygous means both alleles for a gene are the same, and heterozygous means the alleles are different.
